Homelab – April 2022
Downsizing the Lab
Today I would like to share my downsizing project. As power gets more expensive (even I have own solar power) and I don’t have the time to play with it a lot I removed everything unneccesary and move on with only production servers.
On the left side the „before“ situation:
Unsued Supermicro Server
DIY main storage Server
Quanta server as ESXi host
New Supermicro storage server
3x older HP DL160G6 as cluster lab
Fujitsu blade center
HP storage server
HP blade center
Details for „production“ servers are below.
Afterwards
My smaller rack now carrries from top to bottom:
Fujitsu Celsius C620 (E3-1280v2, 32GB, Nvidia Quadro 6000) was used to be my second VM Server for GPU related stuff. But as this does not support SR-IOV and I didn’t get it working for plex I will replace this for a dedicated Nextcloud host.
Quanta S210-X22RQ (2x E5-2670, 256GB) is my main VM host, currently running ~30 VMs (Nextcloud, 2 Windows Domains, Docker, Gameserver, Plex etc.)
DIY Storage Server (i3-6100, 32GB, 14x 4TB, 6x 600GB, some SSDs as Cache, reused 2 damages chassis) will be replaced slowly by the next Storage Server.
Supermicro CSE-847 (2x E5620, 48GB, 4x 14TB, 2x 1TB) used to be new storage server but disks are to expensive right now 🙁
Back:
Netgear GS752TXS
some Avocent console server
Plans for future
move 2,5″ storage to 3,5″ storage and remove old storage server
maybe HA VM host with central storage
